Casa Mercedes

Name: Caroline

Stayed here: Sep 08, Aug 07

I have stayed twice so far at this excellent casa in Old Havana.  Two clean and quiet rooms with A/C, safe, own bathroom.  Good breakfasts. Mercedes is very helpful and has many recommendations of places to visit or eat out, will arrange taxis to the airport or elsewhere and will make arrangements for you for bus and casa accommodation if you are touring around Cuba.
I'm looking forward to staying there again when I pass through Havana later this month (Nov 09).

Casa Mercedes
The Mercede's house is in Habana Veja, in excellent position to visit the city centre. The house is clean and the breakfast is copious. Mercedes is very kind: she found and advise all the other casas particulares of our tuor in Cuba (all houses very ok). Fourtunately Mercedes doesn't like who search easy sex. The price: room 30 CUC/night, breakfast 4 CUC/person, security box 1 CUC/day, laundry service 10 CUC. This is a very good address!

I had the opportunity to stay at Casa Mercedes in March 2005. It is truly is a wonderful residence to stay at.

If you are planning to visit Cuba, particularly Havana, and would like an alternative to staying at a hotel, or a resort, then Casa Mercedes is for you.

It's located in the best part of Havana. A short walk will get you to Parque Central, Plaza des Armes, Plaza Vieja, the famous Hemingway hangout called El Floridita and the cozy, restaurants, bars and shops along the famous Obispo street.

For a few dollars more, the casa will make you mouth-watering meals. The breakfasts include a scrumptious fruit salad, bread, fruit juice, tea and your choice of well-prepared eggs. Dinners include everything from shrimp to chicken, along with salad. The French fries are so good! All you have to do is indicate to Mercedes what time you'd like your meals and the choice of
meals. All the meals at the casa are the best meals you will have in all of Cuba.

The casa is a place unlike no other. The ceilings in the rooms are extremely high and accompanied by stain glass windows. The rooms are spotless, as Mercedes takes great pride in her house. You can opt for an on-suite bathroom which is cleaned daily. The furnished balcony looks down onto the bustling life of Havana. Each guest will get her own key to the house and to her room. And one can come and go as she pleases.

Casa Mercedes will also assist you in other travel plans you may have within Cuba. You may also have an opportunity to meet other travelers staying at the casa and hang out with them in Havana, as I did.

I would recommend this casa to anyone traveling to Cuba. By staying at this casa once, you'll not only treasure the experience and the memories, but you'll definitely want to return.

I’d like to send some feedback for Casa Mercedes. I stayed with Mercedes and Jorge for six nights in late March 2007.

I was traveling alone for some of my trip to Cuba and wanted to meet some local people instead of just doing the usual ‘tourist’ thing. I found this Casa Particular on Google over the internet and I think I was especially lucky to have found Mercedes and Jorge. They were the most welcoming of hosts and took me into their family, so I didn’t feel at all alone when I stayed with them. Mercedes was very helpful and was able to find an answer for all of my many questions about places to visit, good restaurants, music venues, culture, etc. The room had everything I needed and I loved the high ceilings which helped to keep it cool. Mine was at the back of the house so I wasn’t disturbed by anything, either. I loved sitting on the balcony and watching the world go by in the street.

Casa Mercedes is situated near the Parque Central and was within easy walking distance of all the interesting sites, so it was an ideal place to stay when exploring the old part of Havana. In addition, I could have easily got to any of the other suburbs by taxi. One night Mercedes arranged for a taxi to drop me at a late-night jazz venue and pick me up at the end so that I would be sure to get home safely, which was great. And one day I took a trip off the coast to Caya Largo to go snorkeling and was picked up at one of the hotels nearby. On two other evenings I walked up to one of the restaurants Mercedes recommended and ate well and cheaply.

I had such a good time in Havana and I know that it was largely because I was staying with such a good family. I can’t recommend Casa Mercedes highly enough.

August 2007 We stayed with Mercedes and Jorge when we first arrived in Havana. They were the perfect welcome party! Mercedes speaks brilliant English and knows everything a newcomer needs to know in Havana. The house is beautiful, clean and a lovely breakfast is provided on request. She also helped plan our trip: we told her where we wanted to go on which dates and she arranged all the casas for us. Wherever we went, there was a friendly face with a name card waiting! She was our 'base' throughout the trip and was even kind enough to re-arrange dates according to our changes. You should definitely stay at 'Casa Mercedes' if you're planning to go to Havana!
